Bloomfield NY, October 2020 – Fresh produce consumers are looking for natural, healthy, and convenient products. As packaging gains more relevance in the produce category, Terphane (www.terphane.com), a leader in specialty PET (polyester) films and an important global player, will present three innovative solutions developed for this sector at the virtual PMA Fresh Summit 2020 October 13-15.
“The purpose is to present Terphane´s portfolio of innovative solutions in PET films for the fresh produce market, mainly fruits and vegetables,” explained Marcos Vieira, Global R&D Director of Terphane. One of these is easy-open resealable PET lidding film with antifog qualities.
Terphane offers Sealphane® PET films, addressing a growing demand for tamper evident, multi-use lidding solutions. This tray and lidding film package solution provides environmental advantages including reduced plastic compared to traditional clamshell containers.
Offering a wide seal range, Sealphane® RESEAL is a transparent film with excellent thermal stability and mechanical properties that seals to many different substrates while providing excellent barrier to gas, water vapor, and aromas. Terphane’s approach provides full access to the contents of the package and not just through the die cut aperture. Sealphane® RESEAL film also eliminates the need to label, laser score, or buy any tooling to provide a die cut package. This technological leap saves time, money, and the risk of capital obsolescence if the tray, or container, changes in the future. Any tray using a lid can change to Sealphane® RESEAL at no cost, simply by changing the current roll to Terphane’s material.
At PMA Fresh Summit 2020, Terphane is also presenting its sustainable line of PET films. Ecophane films contain at least 30 percent post consumption recycled PET and are a landfill biodegradable PET film. “Ecophane contributes to the production of more sustainable packages. These films can also be used in modified atmosphere conditions, and the packages are 100 percent recyclable,” added Marcos.
All Terphane films for flexible packaging are aligned with the demands of the fresh produce: solutions that maximize product shelf life, reduce food waste, and increase value for consumers. The packages also guarantee integrity of the products during transportation and storage, avoiding waste. Additionally, they offer logistics gains due to stacking advantages of the packages – more packaging using less space. These attributes make flexible film and lidding film packaging ideal for e-commerce.
