Investing in innovation is part of Terphane’s culture. The company understands that it is only through innovative technological solutions that it is possible to meet the wishes of the final consumer and follow the demands of the market. The products listed are the result of this constant mapping of consumer trends.
Increased shelf life
Sealable polyester films in the Sealphane® line maximize the life of produce, minimize waste and increase consumer perception of value. There are logistical gains due to the possibility of stacking packages, as well as opportunities in new channels, especially online sales.
Sealphane® films have very high transparency and anti-fog functionality allowing the consumer to view the product or enjoy printed images with very high quality, even when the product is refrigerated. Sealable films are also easy to open.
Opaque and with a velvety touch
“Matte” films (opaque) feature a trendy soft appearance attracting consumers at the point of sale (POS), leading them to want to interact with the packaging. This guarantees the differentiation that brand owners need to remain competitive. Terphane’s “matte” line consists of RMAT, BMAT, SMAT and VMAT2Z films, the latter with a velvety touch. All meet FDA and international standards for contact with food.
Metallized and high barrier
To guarantee packaging solutions with the lowest possible carbon footprint, Terphane spares no investment in its metallization capacity. The trend of replacing traditional structures laminated with aluminum foil by metallic structures is lighter and safer. It is driven by tomato-based products, powdered milk, soup and coffee, which mainly use SUP packaging (stand up pouch) or flat bottom structures.
Metallized polyester films guarantee an excellent barrier to moisture and oxygen and are tested in line, in compliance with the most rigorous standards. Terphane’s metallization process is state of the art and is done with a unique equipment in the Americas.
Monomaterial
Another innovative solution from Terphane is the PET film for oven bags which makes it possible to cook or heat food quickly, easily and safely in the packaging itself. The main difference is the possibility of placing the packaging in the microwave or conventional ovens (up to 210°C) and withstanding low refrigeration and/or freezing temperatures (up to -30°C). It is also possible to use a single packaging, mono material (polyester) and recyclable, removing the need for outer packaging.
Sustainable with recycled content
In line with the concept of circular economy, Terphane developed the Ecophane® rPET line of polyester films with at least 30% PCR (post-consumer recycled PET) in its composition.
There are 10 types of films from the Ecophane line, available for the most diverse applications and guaranteeing a lesser use of virgin raw materials. This is because they use discarded PET in the form of packaging or other items that are collected, recycled and returned to packaging.
Sustainability through biodegradation
The biodegradable films of the Ecophane® bPET line degrade when disposed of in landfills, becoming a natural fertilizer. The film degrades completely in an average period of four years, always in anaerobic conditions.
The material has been approved for contact with food and was developed according to the ASTM D5511 standard (standard for testing landfill biodegradation).
The additives used in biodegradable Ecophane are 100% organic, composed of non-toxic raw materials. The biodegradability property is linked to the chemical structure of the polymer.
